Fangirls For Dummies
fangirl (noun)-a person, who idolizes, supports, stalks, squeals about, talks about, and/or cry for a certain artist/s or group of artists. Please be mindful not to bring anything related to their idol close to them within a ten-meter radius, or expect the consequences of losing your hearing due to high-pitched squealing, shrieking and screaming. This act of high-pitched squealing, shrieking, screaming and in some cases, hyperventilating, is called ‘fangirling’. See ‘hardcore fan’.
Fangirls. Some people wonder just what kind of creature they are to be able to squeal so high, scream very loud, and hold their breath for a long period of time just at the glimpse of their beloved idol. Before, the term used for this kind of people (yes, they are humans too) is ‘fan’. But since the word ‘fan’ represents all genders and the girl fans are much worse than the average ‘fans’, the teens needed to change the word used. Unbelievably, this word is not yet included in the World Dictionary despite the fact that every person already knows how to identify a fangirl. Maybe the World Dictionary can’t find a proper meaning to the word ‘fangirl’, therefore, I provided a meaning to this word as I mentioned above. Fangirls are often misunderstood and most often, not understood at all. Sometimes you just wish that these fangirls come with a booklet that says ‘Fangirls for Dummies’. I’d give you that. First of all, you have to know how to identify a fangirl. Here are few of the many;
WAYS TO IDENTIFY A FANGIRL:
1.
Talks about a certain artist all the time… like all the time.
2.
Knows everything about a certain artist (songs
and lyrics and those things behind it, whole name, blood type, date of birth,
day of birth, year of birth, place of birth, time of birth, hometown, names of
parents, siblings and bodyguards, favourites, former lovers, etc.) but knows
hardly anything about herself.
3.
Is updated about a certain artist (currently
dating, current place, current tweets, current posts, upcoming albums, upcoming
singles, upcoming gigs, upcoming tour dates, etc.).
4.
Has photos and doodles of a certain artist
everywhere (in the I.D., room walls, closets, back pages of notebooks,
journals, books, computer desktop, computer files, scrapbooks, etc.).
5.
Has a different, unique language that only
fellow fangirls could understand. Here is a twitter conversation of a fangirl
with another fangirl:
“OMG! ASDKFJASIENKFSNIANERNF! ZAC EFRON
IS LIKE SO AKSKFWEUF. I CANT EVEN”
“OOOOOMG!
IKR! HE’S LIKE SO KASHNKFJENFUKWNEJKN!”
“SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
AWENFUWNEUFNE!”
“I KNOW RIGHT!”
Tell me, did you understand a thing those two just
talked about? I’m taking that as “Uhh… what?”.
6.
Has things about a certain artist that you’d
expect (or maybe not) to see (albums, photographs, half-naked
pictures*coughIanSomerhaldercough*, CCTV camera videos of them in
airports*ehemOneDirectionehem*, baby photos, birth certificates, old phone
number, etc.).
7.
Automatically engages herself in a conversation
with you once you talked about a certain artist that she really, really likes.
8.
Supports and defends a certain artist to the
point that she wages war along with other fangirls on her side to an opposing
group of fangirls (Twitter War, as I call it).
9.
Bounces in her seat, makes weird noises and
sounds, giggles like a maniac and gets frustrated when she sees a certain
artist on television or on a the front cover of a magazine.
10.
Lastly, a fangirl can be terrifying once you
damage her merchandise of a certain artist, or touch it without her permission.
It’s almost the same as asking for a death sentence.
Some people
wonder just what kind of creature fangirls are to be able to squeal so high,
scream very loud, and hold their breath for a long period of time just at the
glimpse of their beloved idol. Optimists say that fangirls are full of energy
and dedicated while the cynics declare that fangirls are purely annoying and
just exaggerating. I respect opinions, and if your opinion is the same as the
cynics and the optimists, I just want to ask a question. Do you ever idolize
someone so much that you swear you just really need that person to be a part of
your life? That all you need is that person and you could survive everyday? The
world is casually cruel, with all these negative energies swallowing you whole.
Reality is harsh and vindictive, choosing no age to victimize and pick on. And
if you’re no idealist or optimist, you wouldn’t last another day. You’d feel
that there is only one thread that keeps you from falling to oblivion. But
then, you hear something. You see someone. It’s that person that you like. He/she
says something inspirational along the lyrics of his/her song or writes a
dedication to his/her fans. Then you just have to hold on to that single thread
and last another day. That’s how all fangirls feel. And I, myself, am a
self-proclaimed fangirl.
So if you are
still confused whether what kind of creature a fangirl is, then stay confused.
Because fangirls are like Harry Styles’ tweets; you just can’t understand a
thing about them. You might be asking “What’s the point of reading this?”.
Well, the point is, I am trying to stop people from discriminating and bullying
fangirls and think that they are just the typical nerds who can’t do anything
decent with their lives. I am not trying to be melodramatic, but no one knows
our story. No one wants to hear us out because society thinks that all we ever
talk about is the same person—well yeah, sometimes, but that is not the point.
Like Taylor once said in her song “We are alone with our changing minds. We
fall in love till it hurts or bleeds or fades in time.” That’s a definition of
a fangirl. We are alone; we’re flighty but loyal. We look up to people who are
not afraid to show raw emotion, and we share that sentiment with them, until we
feel their hurt and joy as well. We would be there even if they fade. Even if
they’re not as popular as they were before. Therefore, we are the kind of
creature who can squeal so high, shriek very loud, and hold their breath for a
long period of time. We are fangirls. That’s it, World Dictionary; just put my
article.
